Sun Tower Hotel & Suites - Review
May 28th, 2010

If you are looking for an ocean-front, family friendly place to vacation while in Ft. Lauderdale, you must check out the Sun Tower Hotel & Suites!! Located just south of Oakland Park Blvd, and directly on the sand -- you'll quickly discover that they are not called "South Florida's best kept secret" for nothing!

After living in Ft. Lauderdale, and coming back to visit family every year for the past 10 years, I am convinced that we have found the BEST family friendly hotel in the area! Recently changing ownership, we found the Sun Tower to have all the same features we always loved and now even MORE!

For families on a budget, you can't compare with any hotel out there. Located directly on the ocean, and literally only steps to the sand. Every room offers a private balcony with your own personal view of the ocean -- it is truly breathtaking. When our children were smaller, it was great to have the balcony to enjoy once they went to bed. Now that they are older (11,9 and 4), we love the fact that we can drop down onto the sand at all hours -- our most recent visit even allowed us to watch the hatching of sea turtles in the middle of the night - you can't get that anywhere else!

The hotel consists of 22 rooms and suites. We booked the "King Suite" that offers a separate bedroom with King bed. The living area was complete with a pull-out queen sofa, pull-out twin chair, dining table and kitchenette with a full sized refrigerator. Two televisions and free high-speed internet access kept us plugged into the outside world. One of the benefits the hotel offers is FREE beach chairs, umbrellas and towels. When you have three small children, this is priceless -- that Florida sun is very hot, especially in the summer! Additionally, the hotel offers a fresh water pool and for an extra convenience, cooked to order breakfast and lunch is available on the back ocean deck. Another perk of this hotel is the location, it is very quiet. But not to worry, for those looking for some nightlife or restaurants, they are just a short drive either way on A1A. The Ft. Lauderdale strip is just south about 1/2 mile and the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea shopping/dining area is just north about 1/2 mile. We found it easy to pick up a few groceries at a nearby Publix like cereal and lunch meat and either went out for dinner in the evening or ordered in from local restaurants in the area to just enjoy the priceless view! Beach activities, like para-sailing and wave-runner rentals are close by too!

Under the direction of General Manager, Arturo, the staff at the Sun Tower must get mention here for their amazingly personable and family-style service. Staying in a smaller location appeals so much to us because of this kind of personalized service, by the end of our trip, we felt like we knew everyone! Service with a smile is what they are about, and these days that can set you apart by miles!
